So here’s my idea…
I might not be a great writer yet. But I’m getting better. And that’s what this blog is all about. Getting better at something you love to do. I’m on a writing journey, and I’m inviting you to come along.
But this is not just another “I’m going to teach you how to write” blog. I’m not here to teach you. Rather, I’m going to share with you some of the things that have helped and are helping me learn.
Ultimately, learning how to write is something you’ll have to do on your own. I can’t find your voice or structure your stories for you. But I can share with you how others have found their voices, and how others have learned to structure their stories. Writing itself is a solitary activity, but there is a lot to be learned from the writing community. We can help each other.
My idea with this blog is to collect some of that knowledge and present it to you in a way that is helpful and hopefully practical. For now, this blog is going to focus on two things, both of which will be part of their own ongoing series. They are:
- The Writing Process. This series will include interviews with other writers about how they write. Stuff like whether they are pantsers or outliners, when and where they write, how they get into character, what structure tricks they use, etc.
- Writing Tips: The Best Lessons from the Best Books on Writing. There are lots of books on the craft of writing. And I’ve read a ton of them. This series will take the best three ideas from these books and present them to you. My hope is to share with you some great techniques while introducing you to some great teachers so you can decide if you want to read more.
The basic idea is this: I’ll throw the spaghetti against the wall. You let me know what sticks.
I’m looking forward to sharing this journey with you, and some spaghetti.
See ya! Michael
